Frequently Asked Questions

Things that customers often ask about heat pumps and refrigeration
  • Why do I need to have my heat pump serviced

To maintain the best performance from your system and to confirm that it is electrically safe and has no refrigerant issues.

This will ensure a longer life span of your unit.

  • How often and when should I get my heat pump serviced?

Depending on how the system is used will determine this, but once a year is recommended. You can have the system serviced at any time of the year but most prefer to have them serviced before the cooler weather starts.

  • Where is the best place to put my heat pump?

This location is dependent on the style and capacity of the unit, and the area you are looking at heating/cooling.  We recommend that an expert visits your property to determine the best options.

  • How much does it cost to operate a heat pump?

The size of the system and the settings that it is operating to will determine the operation cost.  Other factors include how long it is operating before it reaches set temperature.

  • Can my refrigeration system be re-gassed?

A system cannot be re-gassed without first determining why the system has lost the refrigerant, and where the leaks are, these must be located and repaired before re-gassing.

  • Why is the outside part of my refrigeration system noisy?

The outdoor unit could have a faulty condenser fan motor or a compressor could have internal damage.

  • Why is the inside part of my fridge covered in ice?

The evaporator fan, the defrost element or the defrost clock could be faulty. The door seal is damaged and letting in warm air, the refrigerant is leaking. Or someone simply left the door open.

  • Should the inside of my fridge be dripping water?

No, this could be due to too much ice on the coil, or the drain could be blocked or damaged.

  • Why does the inside of my fridge smell?

It could be because the drain or drain tray is dirty or blocked, and that the system is not cooling correctly. This should be checked and rectified to prevent the risk of lost stock.
